In other words, you can allocate a specific speed to each device so that it does not exceed it. This prevents any user from consuming the entire bandwidth at the expense of others. 

This feature is used to maintain network stability and achieve a fair distribution of speed, especially in environments with a large number of users such as offices, companies, or large homes. It also helps improve the overall network performance and reduce problems of slowdown and sudden disconnections. 

 

Methods of Bandwidth Control in DrayTek Routers 

DrayTek routers offer more than one way to control Internet consumption within the Bandwidth Limit feature: 

  • Default Limit: Setting a general speed that applies to all devices.

1. Default Limit 

The Default Limit is the basic and general setting in the Bandwidth Limit feature. This limit is applied to all network users (LAN Clients) unless there is a specific rule in the Limitation List. 

  • Enter the Default TX Limit value (Upload). 

  • Enter the Default RX Limit value (Download). 

  • If you enter 0, it means there is no default limit (unlimited). 

Note: If you want to rely only on the customized rules in the Limitation List, set the Default Limit to 0. 

 

2. Limitation List 

This list allows the network administrator to add customized speed limit policies for specific users or groups based on IP addresses. 

You can choose one of two modes: 

  • Each: Each IP address receives a separate (independent) speed. 

  • Shared: A group of devices shares a total combined speed. 

Practical Example: 

  • Rule 1 (Index 1): Devices from 192.168.1.10 to 192.168.1.15 → Each device gets 100 Kbps Download + 100 Kbps Upload (Each mode). 

  • Rule 2 (Index 2): Devices from 192.168.1.20 to 192.168.1.25 → All devices share 1000 Kbps Download + 1000 Kbps Upload (Shared mode). 

You can add multiple rules according to your needs (such as limiting guest devices or specific devices in the office). 

 

3. Smart Bandwidth Limit 

This smart feature is used to apply speed limits only to devices that consume an abnormally large number of sessions (such as heavy downloading or using torrents). 

This way, normal devices are not affected, and heavy users are automatically restricted from consuming resources. 

 

4. Auto Adjustment
